A unit's service expiration
In this article
Each unit can have an expiration date for its contracted service. Once that date passes, the unit is blocked for regular users, although it keeps recording positions.
Before you start
- Only the Administrator role can change the date. The Fleet manager sees it but cannot change it.
- If you don't see the Service expires field when you edit a unit, this option is not turned on for your account.
Steps
- On the map, open Settings and go to Devices.
- Edit the unit.
- In Service expires, choose the last day of the contracted service. The date can be today or a later day. If the unit has no date, the field says No expiry date and the unit does not expire.
- To renew, you can use the Renew shortcuts, which add 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. If the service has already expired, the months count from today.
- Tap Save.
What happens when it expires
- Anyone who is not an Administrator or Fleet manager stops seeing the unit and cannot send it commands.
- If someone tries, they see "This unit’s service has expired. An administrator has to renew it before it can be used."
- The unit keeps recording positions and is visible again as soon as you renew it.
In the unit's form you will see "Service expired: hidden from regular users and not accepting commands. It keeps recording positions. Update the date to restore it."
Notices before it expires
Administrators and fleet managers get a Service about to expire notice 30, 7 and 1 day before the date, and a Service expired notice on the day the unit is blocked. If several units expire on the same day, they come together in a single notice. You choose the channels they reach you through in your alert preferences.
